Institute Fellow Whaley is Indiana Professor of the Year

A Notre Dame biology professor who champions undergraduate research and catalyzes scientific learning among high school students in the local community has been honored as the 2014 Indiana Professor of the Year.

Michelle A. Whaley, who is also an Institute for Educational Initiatives fellow, received the title recently from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

In addition to her research in molecular genetics, Prof. Whaley contributes her time as a dynamic teaching professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, leading initiatives to train students from underrepresented groups, develop high-quality research opportunities for undergraduates, and engage the College of Science for mentoring in school districts near Notre Dame.
